Duunnn dunnn… duuuunnnn duun… duuunnnnnnnn dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dunnnnnnnnnnn dunnnn…
It’s not quite as scary as the movie, but above is the theme song from “Jaws.” It was the terrifying sound of someone about to get eaten alive by an underwater predator, a shark. Swimming with sharks is highly frowned upon, but is this the case in the DFS industry? We’re going to go deep sea fishing and catch what has become one of the largest misconceptions in the entire industry, “The high rollers (sharks) in the DFS industry should be avoided at all costs!” Believe it or not, some of the biggest names in daily fantasy sports lose more than YOU do! This new feature will not have a filter. It will not benefit anyone, including our own Pros. We will be tracking 20 of the “biggest sharks” along with our own Pros and the RotoRadar Edge Optimizer. We will only be tracking people who are ranked in the top 1,000 in the world according to RotoGrinders.com’s Ranking System. “Swimming With The Sharks” will provide full transparency. This means, regardless of how much anyone we’re tracking wins or loses, the results will be just that… the results. If you’ve ever wondered, “How good is _____?” You won’t ever have to wonder anymore. If they dominate, the results will show. If they struggle, you’ll know the truth.
Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s break open the first two weeks of NBA action. Below you will see the results from the first 20 DFS Pros we’re tracking. We say first, because we will be adding to this list as the Season progresses. The data compiled was from a compilation of double ups, 50-50s and or single-entry tournaments. We based the win/loss record on what the average score to cash in a 50-50 was for that given night. If the Pro fell short of that number, they were given a loss. If the Pro was above that number, they were rewarded a win. Here are the results through the first 14 days of the NBA Season:

Welcome to the fifth edition of “Swimming With The Sharks!” I almost want to manually change these results because if you notice three of our NBA Pros are in the top five and all of them are in the top 10. If you really want to know the truth, when I started tracking these numbers I was hoping our team would be right in the middle. Not too high to seem like our purpose in doing this was solely promote ourselves and not too low for us to lose credibility. I can officially say, obviously I’m happy that we’re all winning and our members are, but this is my worst-case-scenario. The average score of all of the “Sharks” through six weeks of the NBA Season is 53.42% which is 2.03% lower than it was for our 4th edition. We calculate the average success rate to see the difficulty of the previous week. Since the overall average lowered itself by 2% we can conclude this was a very difficult stretch to cash.
BrittinghamT, RotoRadar NBA/NFL/MLB DFS Pro, is coming into this next week scorching hot! He and Makisupa are the only two Pros to be at 80% over their last 10 slates (8-2) and he’s the only Pro we’re tracking who is currently on a four game win streak. What might be the most impressive about this full-time DFS Pro is the timing of his hot streak. The overall Pro percentage dropped two points and six Pros fell out of the 60th percentile and into the 50th. There are currently only three Pros we’re tracking over 60% and he is one of them. Also, Tom has jumped up 10 places on the leader board which is the largest jump from one edition to the next of the 2016-17 NBA Season (13th Place to 3rd). BrittinghamT is right where we expect him to be and I personally wouldn’t be surprised if you saw him jump up even higher by the 6th Edition of Swimming With The Sharks.
Tony Niehaus, BigT444, remains at the very bottom of our shark tank and comes in as our bottom feeder through six weeks of the NBA Season. The frequent host on Grinders Live (RotoGrinders.com) has run into many injuries to this point in the year, but did manage to improve his winning percentage from 33% to 37% over the last two weeks. Nick Dunham, aka 1ucror, had a rough two week stretch (40%) and looks to get himself back in the top 5 of our leaderboard like he was for the first and second edition. The #220 player in the entire world is most well known for his partnership with another DFS legend, Condia. Condia and Nick both reside in Colorado and the former #1 player in the world recently retired from daily fantasy sports (Condia). Is it time to hit the panic button and start collaborating with the legend again? Whatever the case may be, we expect the notorious cash-game player to turn this recent cold streak around soon.
Please remember to submit your requests for any “Sharks” you would like us to track to Desk@RotoRadar.net. We look forward to continue diving deep in the shark infested waters of the daily fantasy sports industry to shine a light where others won’t.
Good Night and Good Skill,
Sean Pfeiffer
