GPP3

***Leave up to $400 on this one. Might not be a bad idea to run a few different combos with this one. For example, Kyle Busch over Truex, Logano over Hamlin. There are multiple combinations from this one that could be made but this is my the template Im provding for this one as I want some Truex exposure.
This week I am rating this a 3 out of 5 when constructing lineups as we head into Sonoma for our first road race this year! We have the $8 GPP this weekend with a 1st place price of $50,000! I will do my best to put us in position to be ahead of the rest this weekend!
Last year Tony Stewart drove to victory as he battled Denny Hamlin to the finish. Kyle Busch was the winner here back in 2015.
Records after Pocono:
Premier Record: 8-7
Gpp 1: 8-7
GPP 2: 8-7
GPP 3: 6-9
DraftKings scoring breakdown:
-Place Differential = +/- 1 point For example: Dale Earnhardt Jr starts 8th and finishes in 1st you would get 7 points, but if finished in 28th place you would lose 20 points.
-Fastest Laps = + 0.5 points for each lap to the driver that recorded the fastest lap
-Laps Led = + 0.25 points for each lap led
DraftKings gives 46 points to 1st place, 42 points to 2nd place and 41 points to 3rd place. Every position after that gets 1 less point.
This week’s starting top 10:
- Kyle Larson
- Jamie McMurray
- Martin Truex Jr
- Kyle Busch
- AJ Allmendinger
- Danica Patrick
- Ryan Blaney
- Chase Elliott
- Chris Buescher
- Dale Earnhardt Jr
Please make sure to fill in your lineups with the drivers you feel that give you the best results!

Initial thoughts:
This weekend will be all about finishing position and place differential. Larson will be starting from the pole and was fast in practice. We will see a lot of road course drivers in the players pool this weekend, so a lot of you won’t recognize all the names this weekend, but don’t be afraid to play a few of them.
Top 3 drivers $9,000 or higher:
Kurt Busch $9800: Taking a look at the other Busch brother, he had a second place finish in 2015 and a top-ten finish in 2016 as well. He will starting 17th on Sunday and could be one of the top place differential drivers this weekend. He has led more laps here than any other driver. Great gpp and cash play this weekend.
Jimmie Johnson $9600: Jimmie now has seven top-ten finishes in his last eight races here. He will be starting 24th, and like Kurt Busch, he should be one of the top place differential drivers this weekend. He won here in 2010.
Clint Bowyer $9400: Taking a look back at Bowyer’s history here, he has run 11 races here and has recorded eight top-ten finishes. Of those eight top-ten finishes, six of them were in the top five. He will be starting 13th and is riding in the car Stewart took to victory lane last year. Great gpp play and in consideration for cash as well.
Others to consider $9000+:
Kyle Busch $10,200: Kyle will be starting fourth this weekend. He won here in 2015 and is coming in with two straight top-ten finishes here at Sonoma and five top-ten finishes in his last six races this season. Due to his starting position, he is more of a gpp play on Sunday but make sure to have a good amount of ownership.
Kevin Harvick $9900: The four guys I just got done writing up, are my top four plays in this price range this weekend. Joey Logano is another guy who I like come Sunday’s race. Kevin is always in play and he will be starting 12th and has an average finish of fifth in his last two races here. He, like Kyle Busch, is coming in with great form recording seven top-ten finishes in his last nine races this season. Don’t use him as much as some of the other guys in this price range, but make sure to have some exposure as he should be lower owned than some of the guys in this price range.
Joey Logano $9000: Joey will be starting 18th and I will put him in the category of Kurt and Jimmie as one of my favorite place differential drivers this weekend. He isn’t coming in with greatest of form, but this is a different track and he has five top-eleven finishes in eight career races here. In 2015 he started 19th and came away with a fifth place finish. If he can duplicate that performance, you will be more than happy with that result.
Additional thoughts on this price range: I feel everyone in this price range is in play this weekend as this the group of drivers usually finishes up front. There has been a lot of talk about AJ Allmendinger as this is a road race. He will be in some of my lineups and I could see him being higher owned this week, but I will be underweight on him. He will be starting fifth and has never had better than a seventh place finish in eight attempts here. He has qualified second or better the last three years but has yet to to turn in a top-five finish. I might just fade him completely and hope to be ahead of the field and that is exactly what will happen if he finishes outside of the top ten. Truex and Larson will both be starting in the top three and I will have some ownership there as well, but much lower than the other drivers listed above.
Top 3 drivers $7000-$9000:
Denny Hamlin $8900: Hamlin will be starting 14th and finished second last year to Tony Stewart. He then went on to win the road race at Watkins Glen. Before his success last year, he had been pretty inconsistent at road courses. He now has eight top-ten finishes in 22 career road course attempts. He is in play for both cash and gpp. I like him more for gpp but he could be in play for cash if you have the salary left.
Kasey Kahne $8000: Kasey is coming in with four straight top-ten finishes here and six of his last eight at Sonoma. He will be starting 21st and I am hoping people are scared off of him due to his recent form this season.
Matt Kenseth $7500: He has an average finish of 21.94 in 17 attempts here and will be starting 38th. This is a hard track to pass, but anytime you have a driver with as much experience as Matt, this play makes perfect sense for cash and gpp.
Others to consider $7000-$9000:
Brad Keselowski $8600: Another guy that has run into bad luck as of late and is not coming in with the greatest form. He will be starting 23rd. He is much better at Watkins Glen, but his practice times were better than where he qualified. He is more of a gpp play this weekend.
Ryan Newman $7900: Newman has only finished out of the top 20 one time here and that was a 25th place finish in 15 attempts. He has seven top-ten finishes here and will be starting 20th. He is in play for both cash and gpp.
Billy Johnson $7700: Billy will be driving the 43 car this weekend in place of Darrell Wallace. He was brought in as a road course specialist and doesn’t have any history here but is in play for gpp’s.
Others I will consider at lower ownership: Dale Earnhardt Jr who is starting 10th and will have a little bit of Erik Jones as well.
Top 3 drivers $5000-$7000:
Trevor Bayne $6600: Trevor Bayne has been one of the more consistent drivers this season for place differential and will be starting 25th. All we need is for a top 20 finish and we will be happy with this play at this price point.
Ty Dillon $6300: Ty will be starting 35th. Like Bayne, a top 20 finish would be more than ideal with this play. I would be happy with a top 25 out of him, and will be using him in some of my gpp’s. I am never a big fan of playing rookies in cash on road courses.
Michael McDowell $6100: He has a lot of history running road courses over the years and will be starting 16th. This is solely a gpp play and tread lightly here.
Top Drivers under $7000:
Ricky Stenhouse Jr $6700: He will be starting 22nd and, like I mentioned last week, he is always a little bit lower owned. I wouldn’t necessarily play him in cash games, but he is having his best season so far in his young career.
Others to consider at lower ownerships: David Ragan, Chris Buescher, Landon Cassill, Boris Said, Cole Whitt and Alon Day in that order.
Have a little fun when constructing your lineups on your own this weekend with your own knowledge of the sport and the help of this article and hope to take down a GPP.
***Please play smart and within your means.
Enjoy the race!
Good night and good skill!
